DO I NEED TO LEAVE ANY GAPS BETWEEN THE SIDING AND THE SIDING TRIM?

Please keep in mind that because of the expansion and contraction nature of our material, there would need to be adequate spacing built into your installation. As a result, when installing in cold weather, you will want to build space for the boards to expand, and when installing in hot weather, you will want to install in such a way that the boards can contract, without issue. Allowing your boards to acclimate to their environment before installing would serve as best practices. Detailed expansion and contraction values can be found on page 7 of the decking installation guide here. Keep in mind that this is the gap needed on both sides of the siding board.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE ANY GAPS BETWEEN BUTT JOINTS IF I INSTALL THE SIDING IN COLD WEATHER? WHAT ABOUT IN HOT WEATHER?

Please keep in mind that because of the expansion and contraction nature of our material, there would need to be adequate spacing built into your installation. As a result, when installing in cold weather, you will want to build space for the boards to expand, and when installing in hot weather, you will want to install in such a way that the boards can contract without issue. Allowing your boards to acclimate to their environment for 24-48 hours before installing would also serve as best practices. Detailed expansion and contraction values can be found on page 7 of the siding installation guide here.

CAN THE OUTSIDE CORNERS BE MITERED INSTEAD OF USING SIDING FASCIA?

Yes, they can. However, you would have to install the siding in a way to address the inherent expansion and contraction of the boards. Therefore, the other ends of the boards (away from the corner) would have to end in a US44 butt joint fascia. The expansion and contraction would happen at this point and would be hidden through the US44 butt joint. The corners would stay in place.

CAN THE NEWTECHWOOD SIDING PRODUCT BE HUNG VERTICALLY?

Yes, they can. Just keep in mind that you will want to use the US44 End Fascia on the bottom surface of such an installation as a type of track. Additionally, you would want to use horizontal furring strips / joists. For breathability, you would also need breaks in the furring strips, of about 2’’ in length, every 16’’. These breaks can be in the form of perforation in the furring strips.

CAN THE NEWTECHWOOD SIDING BOARDS BE INSTALLED WITH THE SMOOTH SIDE EXPOSED? IS THERE A SMOOTH SURFACE VERSION OF THE SIDING BOARDS?

The siding cannot be installed this way, as the shape of the board would make this impossible to install, especially with our clips. We do not offer a smooth surface siding board.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD US05 DECKING FASCIA BE USED AS SIDING?

Yes, NewTechWood US05 fascia boards could be used as siding, installed with NewTechWood fascia screws and fascia tool for setting the screws and allowing for expansion and contraction to prevent warping. Please keep in mind that such an installation will not stop the continued degradation of any existing board and baton siding over which this is laid. It is also best practice to covering the wall surface with a house wrap before installing our fascia boards.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD SIDING BE INSTALLED WITHOUT FURRING STRIPS?

No, it cannot. Furring strips are necessary for air flow and for the siding trim to properly be installed. The only exception would be in case of soffit installation. This means it cannot be installed directly onto any moisture barrier. This is not the case for interior installations, or for soffit.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD SIDING BE INSTALLED IN CONJUNCTION WITH A BRICK WALL?

Yes! The combination of a brick wall and NewTechWood composite siding can be an beautiful look. Please note that such an installation would still require the use of joists. The siding trim and boards would be attached to the joists.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD SIDING BE INSTALLED AS SOFFIT?

Yes, it can. You would want to install the siding boards on a plywood base, joists optional, at 12 inches on center. AW08 clips are required. The starter strip is not necessary but is strongly recommended. Using trim would also be optional. Both the tongue and groove and European style profiles may be used as soffit. Finally, we do not have a recommended plywood thickness. This would be up to the contractor installing this soffit.

CAN I USE METAL FLASHING WITH MY SIDING TRIM?
