WHY DOES THE INSTALL GUIDE FOR THE EUROPEAN STYLE SIDING ALLOW FOR 1.64 FEET (500 MM) BETWEEN JOISTS?

This is about 20 inches, or over best practices. We do recommend 16 inches on center, but up to 19/20 inches is acceptable.

WHEN INSTALLING THE SIDING FOR APPLICABILITY TO WILDLAND URBAN INTERFACE, WHERE SHOULD I PUT THE GYPSUM SHEATHING IN RELATION TO NEWTECHWOOD SIDING?

The gypsum sheathing would go against the wall, with the joists on top, with the siding installed on the joists. This would comply with the Wildlife Urban Interface.

WHAT KIND OF JOISTS / FURRING STRIPS CAN BE USED?

We generally recommend wood or aluminum joists. However, you may also use hat channels, steel joists, or metal studs.

WHAT IS THE TOTAL THICKNESS OF THE SIDING INSTALLATION?

The total thickness from the outside of the board and the substrate, when the US09 profile, is used is 1.25 inches, and with the European siding is 2.25 inches. This includes the board (including the portion that goes into the clip), the clip, and the furring strip. This may vary a little based on the furring strip used, but we would recommend a 1×3 furring which is usually 0.75 inches thick.

WHAT ARE THE DETAILS OF INTERIOR INSTALLATION OF NEWTECHWOOD SIDING?

NewTechWood siding can be installed on interior surface, on plywood, without furring strips, if the room in which it is installed will maintain a fairly stable year-round temperature. We would not recommend using glues, or other adhesives, as best practice, as they may not hold over time.

MY SIDING SURFACE IS COVERED IN PLYWOOD. DO I STILL NEED TO USING FURRING STRIPS?

Yes, you would need to use furring strips even if you have a plywood surface to install the siding on to, as this is necessary for air flow. This is not the case for soffit application of our siding, which can be installed onto plywood.

IS THERE A HEIGHT RESTRICTION ABOVE WHICH NEWTECHWOOD SIDING CANNOT BE INSTALLED?

While we have not specifically tested for such a height restriction, we would not be aware of any such reason why this restriction would exist. NewTechWood siding has been installed above the ground floor of numerous buildings, including two story housing, as well as taller residential and commercial buildings.

IS THERE A BUTT JOINT FOR THE EUROPEAN SIDING?

We currently do not offer this. In fact, for horizontal installations of the European siding, we do not recommend installing at more than 32 feet. A butt joint trim does exist for the US09 tongue and groove siding.

IS NEWTECHWOOD SIDING COMPLETELY WATERPROOF?

No, it is not. NewTechWood cladding is designed to be used as a rain screen, and as such, will provide some barrier against water, but not total protection. You will want to install our siding in conjunction with a waterproof barrier.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO ATTACH HEAVY OBJECTS TO NEWTECHWOOD SIDING, SUCH AS SIGNS OR CABINETS?

Yes, this is possible. However please be sure to screw through the siding to the joists themselves, to ensure the weight is on the joists and not the siding. As the siding is designed as a rain screen system, it cannot hold the weight. Specifically, you would want to pre-drill holes through the siding and into the substrate for the mechanical fasteners they choose. These holes need to be a couple of sizes larger than the fasteners they choose to allow for expansion and contraction of the siding boards.
