FAQ Category: Installation

CAN I INSTALL THE DECK BOARDS WITHOUT A SUBFRAME?

No, you cannot. The boards have to be attached to a frame for maximum sturdiness, and is required to honor our warranty.

CAN I HAVE ANY PART OF MY DECK BOARD NOT BE SUPPORTED BY A JOIST?

Yes, this is possible if it is only a matter of a few inches. However, you would not want to have a significant portion unsupported if it will have any weight placed on it, or be walked upon.

CAN I BUILD A DECK WITHOUT ATTACHING THE SUBFRAME TO THE GROUND / CONCRETE SURFACE, ETC?

A subframe under our boards would not need to be bolstered to the ground (such as with a floating deck), if the installation is significantly heavy, and not likely to be moved, or unbalanced.

CAN I BUILD A DECK USING NEWTECHWOOD BOARDS WITH A METAL FRAME?

Yes, you can but would need to use our clip systems substituting the included screws with third-party self-tapping screws.

WHAT KIND OF BLADE CAN BE USED TO CUT NEWTECHWOOD ULTRASHIELD NATURALE?

We recommend using a carbide tip blade.

HOW OFTEN DO THE BOARDS NEED TO BE SEALED?

It is best practice to seal edges upon installation of the material but the seal should hold through the warrantied lifetime of the material (10 years for commercial, 25 years for residential).

HOW DO I REDUCE STATIC ON MY INSTALLATION OF NEWTECHWOOD PRODUCTS?

A potential way to lower the amount of static shocks occurring is to apply Staticide (http://www.aclstaticide.com) on your deck or use anti-static mats before doorways. NewTechWood’s products have been tested against EN 1815 – Assessment of Static Electrical Propensity and have received values under the maximum standard of 2kV.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC SEALER FOR CUT ENDS?

We do not have a specific recommendation for the sealant. A water-based sealer, such as those made by the Thompson’s brand, would work, available at major building material retailers.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD DECKING AND SIDING BE USED IN CURVED APPLICATIONS?

Our Ultrashield Naturale material does have a bend to it, due to the material properties, but is not designed to be installed at large angle curves.

CAN NEWTECHWOOD COMPOSITE MATERIAL BE PAINTED?

Our composite material cannot be painted although some of the metallic and plastic parts may be painted accordingly. Paint will not stick to the composite material, although certain plastic-specific paints may last longer than others. Nevertheless, it is not advised to paint the material as it will not stay painted. If you have a particular color in mind, please contact us with more information, including a color sample image.
