Profiles and Features

Composite railing — a blend of recycled HDPE and dense wood fibers — is the low-maintenance alternative to traditional wood railing: it doesn’t rot, warp, twist or crack, and it never needs to be stained, sanded or painted. Every rail and post sleeve is finished in UltraShield®, the co-extruded shell that fully encapsulates the core and shrugs off scratching, fading and staining.

The hybrid system pairs that composite warmth with a galvanized-steel insert in the rails and aluminum balusters, so a railing that looks at home beside our decking is engineered like a commercial guardrail. Two components do the work:

  • Co-extruded UltraShield® cap — shield and core are extruded together at high temperature, with no adhesives or environmentally harmful chemicals, into one impermeable layer. Coffee, wine and oil wipe straight off, and mold has nothing to grow into.
  • Composite core — carefully chosen recycled plastics and dense soft- and hardwood fibers for strength and durability, and the whole board remains completely recyclable.

Kits assemble into 36″ guard-height runs for residential decks, with matching stair kits cut for 11″ treads and 7″ risers, plus post sleeves, skirts, caps and foot blocks to complete the system.

IRC requires a 36″ guard height on residential decks; IBC requires 42″ on commercial projects. Verify local code before ordering.

Colors

Five UltraShield® railing colors — warm teaks and ipes through contemporary grays — finished with the same fade- and stain-resistant shell as our decking, so rails and boards pair cleanly.

The UltraShield® Difference

Engineered to outlast the elements.

Every NewTechWood board pairs a dense polyethylene-and-wood-fiber core with a 360° polymer cap, tested against stains, scratches, fade, and boiling water. The result: composite that looks like wood, behaves like a fortress, and stays beautiful for decades.
