If you do not see the color in which you are interested in purchasing these products, please review our Special Order colors.
What is a Special Order color?
A Special Order color is a color that we manufacture, but is not currently available in the United States. Special Order colors can be ordered in the US. However, such orders would need to meet 2400 linear feet minimum (approximately 1100 square feet). This comes out to 150 boards of 16-ft length. There is also a 16-week lead time, and a 30% deposit requirement. Special Order colors cannot be purchased through our retail partners and would require a direct purchase, or if applicable, working with a distributor in your area.
Does the color run all the way through this board?
It does not. The interior core is not the same material as the exterior shield. However, they are similar in color. You can learn more about the composition of our material here: https://www.newtechwood.com/ultrashield-advantage/
Can NewTechWood be exposed to elements or does it have to be covered?
NewTechWood products are designed for outdoor use so there should be no issue with exposure to the elements. However, while normal ranges of heat and cold and exposure to rain and snow would not cause damage, extreme weather could.
How do I clean NewTechWood composite material?
NewTechWood material can be cleaned with soap and water. We do not recommend using plant-based cleaners as some customers have noted issues with threading when doing so. We do not yet have testing to confirm this but if it can be avoided, it would be best.
Could I power wash NewTechWood composite material?
We do not recommend power washing our material as the force can cause filamentation of the outer covering. A standard hosing with soap and water would suffice to clean most stains. You may scrub gently for any especially persistent messes.
Can this with stand the heat/cold in [location]?
Yes! Our products would hold up under normal conditions almost anywhere on Earth. In fact, we have NewTechWood deck boards, deck tiles, and siding installed around the world from warm climates including the American southeast and southwest, Hawaii, Latin America, East Asia, and the Middle East, as well as cold climates from North America, including the northern US, Alaska, and Canada, northern Asia, and throughout Europe, including Scandinavia.
How do NewTechWood composite products hold up to extreme heat?
While the nature of composite material does cause it to retain heat, it would not warp the material, which has been even tested in boiling water (see https://www.newtechwood.com/ultrashield-tests/#test5)..
Can NewTechWood composite material hold up to extremely cold temperatures?
NewTechWood composite material has no issue with extreme cold.
Would freeze-thaw cause issues with ice between the boards, for example when used with mini-gap clips?
No, the moisture would just evaporate through.
Is this material slippery when wet?
While all material has some slipperiness, the nature to which you may feel it is slippery would vary based on the contact material (i.e. the material on the bottom of your shoe). We do not anticipate an excessive level of slipperiness with this material. You find some of the slipperiness to be mitigated by the grain pattern. If you have specific concerns, we encourage you to test a sample. Feel free to reach out to us via the customer inquiry form on our website at https://www.newtechwood.com/contact/ with your name, address, phone number, email, and the product(s) and color(s) for which you would like a sample.
Can NewTechWood products be used in salty environments, for example near the ocean?
Yes, salt does not negatively affect our material although you do want to ensure that our material does not stay submerged in either fresh water or salt water. However, exposure itself would not be an issue.
Can I use ice melt on NewTechWood deck boards and deck tiles?
You are welcome to use ice melt on NewTechWood material. However, please keep in mind that the ice melt needs to be cleaned off with dish soap, as you do not want to let it dry on NewTechWood material. If it is left on for a long time, it may stain the boards.
What is the fire rating (hour)? Is the composite material combustible?
Our composite material has a flame spread index no greater than 200, or a Class C rating. More information can be found on our IES-ES report here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/NewTechWood-ICC-ES-Evaluation-Report.pdf and on the MSDS here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/MSDS_UltraShield.pdf.
What is the melting point of NewTechWood composite material?
It is 131 degrees Celsius, or 268 degrees Fahrenheit, noted in our MSDS document here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/MSDS_UltraShield.pdf.
Is NewTechWood material NOA approved for use in Miami-Dade County, FL?
As of August 2019, we have not yet received NOA approval. However, we are in the process of completing testing, and in fact, have recently passed the wind test.
Can I use NewTechWood products in water-prone areas?
As long as the material does not stay submerged, this is not an issue and in fact, NewTechWood is used in showers, marinas, docks, boats, and other surfaces with water exposure.
Are NewTechWood composite boards UV resistant?
Yes! Technology innovations behind NewTechWood provide our boards great UV resistance. We have tested direct UV on our boards for hundreds of hours with minimal change (see more here: https://www.newtechwood.com/ultrashield-tests/#test4). In fact, we also offer a limited warranty regarding stain and fade resistance (see https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/stain_and_fade_performance_limited_warranty-USA.pdf).
How many pounds per square foot can this material hold?
We estimate that NewTechWood material can hold weight of around 1000 pounds per square foot.

Deck boards

In what lengths are NewTechWood deck boards available?
NewTechWood deck boards are available in 16 foot and 8-foot sizes. For 8-foot boards, purchasing must be done directly through Home Depot. Longer lengths (usually 20 feet) are available as a Special Order, with the same restrictions as Special Order colors, specifically a minimum order of 2400 linear feet (1100 square feet), a 16 week lead time, and a 30% deposit. Special Order lengths may only be purchased directly from NewTechWood, or through a local distributor. They are not available through Home Depot.
How many square feet does a 49 pack of 16-foot boards cover?
You can cover a little over 356 square feet with this product. Each 16-foot board covers just over seven square feet.
How many square feet would one US05 fascia board cover?
Each 12-foot US05 fascia board covers roughly 12 square feet.
What are the differences between the hollow deck board profile (UH02 Voyager) over the solid deck board profiles (US07 Cortes, US01 Magellan)?
Hollow deck boards have three main differences from solid boards: 1) they are generally less expensive, 2) they are lighter, and 3) compared to the solid board without grooves, the US07, they have grooves, allowing for use of our clip system. We also do make a solid board with grooves, the US01 profile. The hollow boards do have a 6% less weight bearing strength than the solid boards, but this is arguably negligible.
Does the US33 board come in both wood grain and straight grain?
No, the US33 board has only wood grain, on one side, and is smooth on the other side (the bottom of the board), with a groove for use with our starter clip.
What is the weight per linear foot for each deck board profile?
The UH02 is 28 lbs per 16 feet, or 1.75 lbs per foot. The US33 is 40 lbs per 16 feet, or 2.5 lbs per foot. The US01 is 40 lbs per 16 feet, or 2.5 lbs per foot. The US07 is is 40 lbs per 16 feet, or 2.5 lbs per foot.

Deck tiles

How thick are the deck tiles?
The deck tiles are 0.88 inches thick.
How wide are the slats of the deck tiles? How wide are the gaps?
The slats (boards) of the deck tiles are 2.75’’ wide. The gaps are 0.2’’ inches wide. With 4 slats and 5 gaps, this comes to a total of 12’’.
How much do the 1’x1’ deck tiles weigh, both individually and as a box of 10?
There is a weight of roughly 2.5 lbs per deck tile (and therefore per square foot) so a box of 10 deck tiles, or 10 square feet of deck tile, is 25 lbs.
In what colors are the 1’x2’ deck tiles and the 1’x3’ deck tiles available?
The 1’x2’ deck tiles are available in Brazilian Ipe, Hawaiian Charcoal, Peruvian Teak, Roman Antique, Spanish Walnut, and Westminster Gray. The 1’x3’ deck tiles are available in Brazilian Ipe, Peruvian Teak, Roman Antique, and Westminster Gray
Are water-tight versions of the deck tiles available?
No, at the moment, we do not offer a water-tight version of the deck tiles.
What are the grass tiles made of?
The grass of the grass tile is made of recycled PET plastic.
Are the grass tiles susceptible to issues related to snow?
Yes! They hold up well against snow.
Do NewTechWood deck tile plastic connectors get brittle in the cold?
No, the plastic in these deck tiles are not affected by the cold and should not be damaged under normal weather conditions.
Would these deck tiles blow away in the wind?
We do not believe this is likely as each deck tile is 2.5 lbs., so a 100 square foot deck would be 250 lbs., and quite difficultly to easily move. Additionally, the gaps between deck tiles make it difficult for the wind to catch enough of the deck surface to move it.
Are the grass deck tiles fire resistant?
No, they are not.
Do these deck tiles allow for water evaporate?
Yes, the gaps between the deck tiles allow for water to evaporate.
Are NewTechWood stone deck tiles available? Could you tell me more about them?
As of August 2019, our stone deck tiles are still anticipated to be available later this year. They come in two patterns, one with smaller pieces in the design (US-QD-STR1-ZX) and one with larger pieces (US-QD-STR2-ZX). They weight 5-6 lbs. per deck tile and would be sold in 5-piece boxes (30-31 lbs. per box). The mesh on the bottom is plastic. The deck tiles can be cut through with any blade that can cut through stone and plastic.

SIDING

In what lengths do NewTechWood siding boards come in?
They come in 8-foot and 16-foot lengths. Longer lengths (usually 20 feet) are available as a Special Order, with the same restrictions as Special Order colors, specifically a minimum order of 2400 linear feet (1000 square feet), a 16 week lead time, and a 30% deposit. Special Order lengths may only be purchased directly or through a local distributor. They are not available through Home Depot.
Is there a straight grain version of the siding boards?
Currently we only offer the wood grain pattern on our siding boards. The straight grain can be requested as Special Order and have the same 2400 linear feet and 16 week lead time restrictions.

All products

Can I install multiple colors of the same product together?
Yes, different colors of the same product are physically identical, outside of color, and can be installed together as part of the same assembly for an interesting and unique look.
How often do the boards need to be sealed?
It is best practice to seal edges upon installation of the material but the seal should hold through the warrantied lifetime of the material (10 years for commercial, 25 years for residential).
Do you have a specific sealer for cut ends?
We do not have a specific recommendation for the sealant. A water-based sealer, such as those made by the Thompson’s brand, would work, available at major building material retailers.
Can NewTechWood composite material be painted?
Our composite material cannot be painted although some of the metallic and plastic parts may be painted accordingly. Paint will not stick to the composite material, although certain plastic-specific paints may last longer than others. Nevertheless, it is not advised to paint the material as it will not stay painted. If you have a particular color in mind, please contact us with more information, including a color sample image.
Can a firepit be placed over the deck boards or deck tiles?
Our composite material has a Class C fire rating, which means you could expect the fireplace to not be a fire hazard. However, please note that embers from your fire pit may damage the material.
What kind of blade can be used to cut NewTechWood Ultrashield Naturale?
We recommend using a carbide tip blade.
Can NewTechWood decking and siding be used in curved applications?
Our Ultrashield Naturale material does have a bend to it, due to the material properties, but is not designed to be installed at large angle curves.
Can I use a brad nail gun with NewTechWood composite material?
We would recommend using composite screws rather than nails when installing NewTechWood composite material.
How do I reduce static on my installation of NewTechWood products?
A potential way to lower the amount of static shocks occurring is to apply Staticide (http://www.aclstaticide.com) on your deck or use anti-static mats before doorways. NewTechWood’s products have been tested against EN 1815 – Assessment of Static Electrical Propensity and have received values under the maximum standard of 2kV.

Deck boards

What is the manufacturer’s recommended joist spacing for NewTechWood deck boards?
Detailed information on joist spacing for the decking board can be seen in our installation guide, specifically on pages 5-6: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/Decking-Installation.pdf. The installation video (https://youtu.be/aADwQpSH44c) also provides some insight regarding this, starting at around 4 minutes. For North America, this is 12-16 inches, depending on application.
What is the expansion and contraction of the boards? How much space do I need to leave between the boards and the walls to address expansion and contraction?
Detailed information regarding this can be seen in our installation guide, specifically in the Expansion and Contraction Values section, pages 6 to 8: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/Decking-Installation.pdf. For North American installations, this is usually ¼ of an inch.
If boards butt end to end, can they be supported on the same joist?
No, each board needs to be supported by its own joist.
Can I have any part of my deck board not be supported by a joist?
Yes, this is possible if it is only a matter of a few inches. However, you would not want to have a significant portion unsupported if it will have any weight placed on it, or be walked upon.
When boards are placed end to end, should I leave a gap?
It depends. If you expect the boards to contract (that is, it will get colder in your area from when they are installed), you may place the boards end to end to allow for contraction. Conversely, if you expect it to get hotter in your area, please leave a gap to allow for expansion. Specific recommendations can be seen in the chart on page 4: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/Decking-Installation.pdf.
Should I have a gap between stringers next to each other?
You are welcome to, for the flow of water, but do not make this gap greater than a quarter inch. Adding a gap between stringers could extend the life of your joists slightly, as it would prevent moisture from building up. However, installing either with or without a gap is fine.
How would I place the deck boards so as to have no gap to leak at end-to-end position?
You would need an underlayment to have no water leak.
Can you use the hidden spacers with the solid deck board profile?
Solid boards do not have spaces for the spacers. We therefore recommend only using the composite screws for the solid board.
What is the recommend minimum spacing for the solid deck boards?
We recommend a minimum space of 1/16 of an inch.
Can I use butyl deck tape on my joists in conjunction with NewTechWood?
Yes, this would be fine and in fact, has been used before with NewTechWood. NewTechWood, in fact, makes our own joist tape, which will be released later in 2019.
Can I place a pergola over my decking installation?
Yes, this would be fine. A number of installations of our deck boards use pergola. We also make pergola boards, but do not offer the product in the US.
If my boards are staggered, will the locking T-clip grip both boards?
No, as we have introduced a new locking T-clip, with only grips on one side, they can be used on staggered boards without locking both boards (see an image here: https://www.newtechwood.com/img/decking/clips/clip-tc1.jpg).
How many clips are used per US33 starter board?
The clips are laid out one per joist, so at 16 inches on center, this comes to 12 clips per board.
Do the mini-gap and T-clips come with screws? Do you sell additional screws?
Yes, they do. We do not have screws for sale, but additional clips can be purchased to meet this demand.
What kind of screws are used with the T-clip and the mini-gap clips?
They are stainless steel graded 304.
How many deck screws do I need?
You would want to use two screws every 16 inches, or 26 per 16-foot board.
Can I use the deck boards on stairs?
Yes, you can but will need to install them at 12 inches on center. Please keep in mind that the structure of your stairs could not be made with NewTechWood.
Can I use the deck boards on a ramp?
Yes, as long as you install them 12 inches on center. Please keep in mind that the structure of your ramp could not be made with NewTechWood.
Can I build a deck using NewTechWood boards with a metal frame?
Yes, you can but would need to use our clip systems substituting the included screws with third-party self-tapping screws.
What kind of screws do you recommend if installing the decking by screwing through the face of the board?
We would recommend using trim head screws specifically designed for composite decking. We currently offer these, the Starborn brand, for purchase directly through us. You could also pre-drill the deck boards and use a trim head wood screw.
Can I use NewTechWood deck boards to build a table, bench, or other furniture?
Yes, this is possible but would require the boards to be structurally supported, every two feet or so.
Do you offer any sort of plugs for your deck screws?
No, we currently do not have plugs. In the meantime, you can use a plug maker to achieve this look, for example the https://www.homedepot.com/p/Montana-Brand-Self-Centering-Plug-Cutter-Set-3-Piece-MB-65823/205442795.
Can I use the CAMO system of deck fasteners? Is this considered under warranty?
Yes, you can and yes, it would still be under warranty.
Can the AW08 siding clips be used with the deck boards?
Can I use deck boards as siding?
Yes, you can but would have to screw through the face to attach them.

Deck tiles

My deck has uneven corners. Will your product install properly in the 45-degree corners?
You are welcome to install our deck tiles on surfaces without clear 90-degree angles. However, to do so, you would need to cut the deck tiles. You can find detailed cutting instructions here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/UltraShield-Deck-Tile-Installation.pdf and in the installation video: https://youtu.be/a1fpinb5fJs at 1:50 mark. Please note that removing the dove tail connectors would limit your ability to connect trim or fascia.
Would NewTechWood deck tiles allow for trim or fascia to be connected if the deck tile is cut?
Cutting the connectors does disallow for the deck tiles to be connected to the edge pieces. We have had some customers use Liquid Nail to adhere the deck tile to the trim but this solution has mixed results, and is not officially endorsed. If your deck tiles are installed over a wooden deck, you could also screw through the trim into the wood underneath, after pre-drilling, using a trim head screw. With that said, we currently do not have any official solution to this issue and would recommend installing the deck tiles in way that minimizes cutting them, such as starting at the edge and leaving the cut pieces for the edges of the deck against the wall.
Can grass tiles and deck tiles be connected to each other?
Yes, any NewTechWood US-QD line product including the deck tiles, grass tiles, and planter boxes, can be connect to each other, as they all have identical dovetail connectors.
What is the best way to install grass tiles?
It is recommended to flip the grass tiles over and connect at the back first. You would then flip back the grass tiles back to connect with another regular deck tile grid.
Do you have a specific type of saw to cut the deck tiles?
We do not have a specific product recommendation but would recommend using a table saw or chop saw. You may also use a jig saw but may find the process more cumbersome.
Can NewTechWood deck tiles be placed over a plywood base?
Yes, that would be totally fine. Please ensure this plywood base is flat and structurally sound.
Can the deck tiles be installed on an existing wood deck?
The boards have to be placed over a structurally sound surface, so we would not recommend using a porch that has existing issues. One alternative solution would be to provide stability to your existing porch, perhaps through the use of wooden planks and then place these tiles on top of this wooden surface.
Could I use these deck tiles with a damaged porch?/span>
That would be fine. Please ensure this existing deck is flat and structurally sound.
Can NewTechWood deck tiles be used over a skim coat surface?
If your existing concrete patio needs to be restored to a smoother surface using a skim coat, that would serve as best practices. You can then lay the deck tiles on top of this skim coat without issue, sufficiently meeting the criteria for a flat, structurally sound surface for the deck tiles.
Can these deck tiles be used on an aggregate patio?
We welcome use of our deck tiles over any flat and stable surface. The aggregate nature of the patio would not pose an issue.
Do I have to place this product on concret? If I have a flat dirt area, and maybe do some small gravel before laying this tile, would it stay together?
While you do not have to place the deck tiles on concrete, we strongly recommend installing them on a clean, flat surface. You would therefore want to prepare the area by crushing the gravel and compacting the layers.
Can you lay this beyond your patio? Can these be installed on grass/dirt?
Can the AW08 siding clips be used with the deck boards? No, they cannot as they are not compatible.
Can you lay this beyond your patio? Can these be installed on grass/dirt?
We strongly recommend installing our deck tiles on a clean, flat surface. Therefore, you can, but you would need to either pour concrete or prepare the land the same way as you would using stone or concrete pavers. If you place the deck over the grass without prepping it, if the ground were to shift, the decking would also shift.
What should be used for your NewTechWood deck tiles in terms of gravel and sand depth? Is sand is needed on top of the gravel?
We would recommend using two inches of gravel covered by one inch of sand.
Could NewTechWood deck tiles be installed on bare ground if leveled and covered with landscaping paper?
This would be fine and in fact, we would recommend using the landscape paper as a weed barrier. However, you would still need to use two inches of gravel covered by one inch of sand, as a solid foundation and to allow for water runoff. The landscaping paper cannot serve as a substitute for a gravel and sand.
Can these be placed over a concrete patio without removing carpet?
Such a patio may not provide sufficient flatness to support these deck tiles. With that said, at 2.5 pounds per tile, they may have enough weight to flatten the carpet. If you would like to test to confirm, you can do so by requesting a sample through our contact page here: https://www.newtechwood.com/contact/.
Can this be cut?
Yes, the deck tiles can be cut. tails on cutting our deck tiles is available in our installation video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=111&v=a1fpinb5fJs, around the 1:50) mark and in the install guide: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/UltraShield_Deck_Tile_Installation.pdf, on page 3.
What are my options if I cut the deck tile in a way that removes the screws, separating the tile from the mesh foundation?
Ideally, you would not want to cut the deck tile in this way as there is no definitive solution for attaching the slats back to the frame without the screws. You may try using Liquid Nails to adhere the frame and the tile. You may also use a c-clamp or wire clamp to attach the two pieces. However, we recognize that neither is an ideal solution and, in such cases, may be better to use a spare tile and cut it in a way that keeps the screw intact.
What is a polysheet?
Examples of a polysheet include a TPO or EPDM membrane, a material layer placed on top of your roof, providing protection.
Can I install the deck tiles on a bitumen surface?
Yes, you can.
Can this be used on a roof deck that is finished with a rubber membrane? Will the deck tiles puncture this membrane?
Yes, although the chance of puncturing is low, you may want to place an additional TPO or EPDM membrane / polysheet above your existing rubber membrane to avoid any damage during the installation process. We recommend a minimum thickness of 40 mils. We do not have a recommended product or manufacturer. The deck tiles themselves do not have any sharp points on the bottom. The bottom of the deck tile can be seen here: https://www.newtechwood.com/deck-tile-naturale/#colors.
Would it possible to get create outside and inside curves using the deck tile trim and fascia? And if so, what would be the best way to attach these curved pieces?
We strongly do not recommend trying to create curved deck tile trim and fascia. We would suggest adapting your patio to the straight edges of the decking instead. You could also cut the deck tiles to a curve matching your patio’s curvature.
Can NewTechWood deck tiles be adhered to a surface in any way?
While some customers have had limited success with Liquid Nails, the weight of each deck tile (2.5 lbs / sqft), and their collective weight connected over the entirety of your deck should prevent them from moving around.
Could could I place a hot tub on these deck tiles?
While this can hold a hot tub, if the hot tub has uneven weight distribution, it would be best to cut the deck tiles around the hot tub, or any similar large and/or heavy item, instead.
Do NewTechWood deck tiles have a minimum slope recommendation?
No, they do not. As long as the deck is walkable, this would be fine.
How long of an installation can I have using deck tiles in the same direction?
Deck tiles should not be placed in lengths greater than 35 feet in the same direction, as this can cause contraction and expansion issues.
Can NewTechWood deck tiles be installed on a pedestal support system?
Due to structural issues, our deck tiles would not be sufficiently supported when in use with a pedestal system. We will introduce such a system in the future, possibly as soon as early 2019. However, it may be possible to use a pedestal system, place pressure treated plywood above it, and then use the deck tiles on top of the deck boards.
Can I install a gazebo or other such structure into the deck tiles?
The deck ties are not designed to have anything screwed into them. Our recommendation would be to screw directly into the substrate and then cut around the deck tiles.

Siding

Do I need to leave any gaps between the siding and the siding trim?
Please keep in mind that because of the expansion and contraction nature of our material, there would need to be adequate spacing built into your installation. As a result, when installing in cold weather, you will want to build space for the boards to expand, and when installing in hot weather, you will want to install in such a way that the boards can contract, without issue. Allowing your boards to acclimate to their environment before installing would serve as best practices. Detailed expansion and contraction values can be found on page 7 of the decking installation guide here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/Decking-Installation.pdf. Keep in mind that this is the gap needed on both sides of the siding board.
Do I need to leave any gaps between butt joints if I install the siding in cold weather? What about in hot weather?
Please keep in mind that because of the expansion and contraction nature of our material, there would need to be adequate spacing built into your installation. As a result, when installing in cold weather, you will want to build space for the boards to expand, and when installing in hot weather, you will want to install in such a way that the boards can contract without issue. Allowing your boards to acclimate to their environment for 24-48 hours before installing would also serve as best practices. Detailed expansion and contraction values can be found on page 7 of the siding installation guide here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/Siding_Installation.pdf.
Can the NewTechWood siding product be hung vertically?
Yes, they can. Just keep in mind that you will want to use the US44 End Fascia on the bottom surface of such an installation as a type of track (see https://www.newtechwood.com/siding/#fascia). Additionally, you would want to use horizontal furring strips / joists. For breathability, you would also need breaks in the furring strips, of about 2’’ in length, every 16’’. These breaks can be in the form of perforation in the furring strips..
What is the total thickness of the siding installation?
The total thickness from the outside of the board and the substrate, when the US09 profile, is used is 1.25 inches, and with the European siding is 2.25 inches. This includes the board (including the portion that goes into the clip), the clip, and the furring strip. This may vary a little based on the furring strip used, but we would recommend a 1×3 furring which is usually 0.75 inches thick.
Is NewTechWood siding completely waterproof?
No, it is not. NewTechWood cladding is designed to be used as a rain screen, and as such, will provide some barrier against water, but not total protection. You will want to install our siding in conjunction with a waterproof barrier.
Can siding be installed as soffit?
Yes, it can. You would want to install the siding boards on a plywood base, joists optional, at 12 inches on center. AW08 clips are required. The starter strip is not necessary but is strongly recommended. Using trim would also be optional. Both the tongue and groove and European style profiles may be used as soffit.
Can NewTechWood siding be installed without furring strips?
No, it cannot. Furring strips are necessary for air flow and for the siding trim to properly be installed. The only exception would be in case of soffit installation. This means it cannot be installed directly onto any moisture barrier.
Can a Z-girt be used with NewTechWood tongue and groove siding, for example if the insulation is on the outside of the structure?
Yes, the Z-girt may be used. You would want to use #8 pan head self-tapping screws with the AW08 clips that have fully threaded shanks.
My siding surface is covered in plywood. Do I still need to using furring strips?
Yes, you would need to use furring strips even if you have a plywood surface to install the siding on to, as this is necessary for air flow. This is not the case for soffit application of our siding, which can be installed onto plywood.
Can the outside corners be mitered instead of using siding fascia?
Yes, they can. However, you would have to install the siding in a way to address the inherent expansion and contraction of the boards. Therefore, the other ends of the boards (away from the corner) would have to end in a US44 butt joint fascia. The expansion and contraction would happen at this point and would be hidden through the US44 butt joint. The corners would stay in place.
What kind of joists / furring strips can be used?
We generally recommend wood or aluminum joists. However, you may also use hat channels, steel joists, or metal studs.
What thickness joist do you recommend?
We would recommend a ¾ inch thickness. A 1 by 3, 1 by 4, wood, aluminum, or hat channel would all fit this requirement.
How much spacing do you need between the wall and the boards?
With a ¾ inch spacing created by the joists and an additional ¼ created by the AW08 siding clip, the total spacing would be an inch.
How long can the siding boards be installed without a butt joint trim?
They can be installed two 16 feet boards back to back, or 32 feet. Any greater lengths could leave notably exposed gaps between boards when contracted (if installed in warmer temperatures) or cause bowing when expanded (if installed in colder temperatures).
Do the NewTechWood siding starter strips have to be continuous?
No, but we do not recommend gaps of greater than 12 inches for ceiling or wall application. We also do not recommend gaps between starter strips at the ends of the siding installation.
Is it possible to attach heavy objects to NewTechWood siding (i.e. cabinets)?
Yes, but please be sure to screw through the siding to the joists themselves, to ensure the weight is on the joists and not the siding. As the siding is designed as a rain screen system, it cannot hold the weight.
Can the NewTechWood siding boards be installed with the smooth side exposed? Is there a smooth surface version of the siding boards?
The siding cannot be installed this way, as the shape of the board would make this impossible to install, especially with our clips. We do not offer a smooth surface siding board.
Can I miter the siding trim to fit with my installation?
Yes, this would be fine.
Can I use metal flashing with my siding trim?
Yes, you may.

Deck boards

What kind of fastener do you use for an outside step?
We recommend using our US33 – Columbus Series boards with the starting clip for this. More information can be found in our composite decking install guide, see page 11.

Deck tiles

What kind of deck tiles could I use with my stairs?
We are in the process of making a stair kit utilizing our deck tiles, but do not yet have one. In the meantime, customers have succeeded in this regard by modifying deck tiles for stairs by cutting them with a saw. You may also use our deck boards (see https://www.newtechwood.com/decking-naturale/) for your stairs, and could color match, depending on the color.

All products

Is all hardware included with the [deck boards / deck tiles / siding / garden products]?
Hardware for the deck boards are sold separately from the boards. Trim for the deck tiles are sold separately from the deck tiles. Siding accessories are sold separately from the siding. However, planters, railing, and post kits contain all hardware required for assembly.
From where can we purchase accessories (clips, end caps, fascia, trim, screws, and repair kits)?
Accessories can be ordered through any retailer that sells our deck board, deck tile, or siding, including Home Depot. Depending on the product, Lowe’s, Amazon, Wayfair, Hayneedle may also be options for purchasing the accessories. If you are ordering our products through a distributor, you may reach out to them to purchase accessories.
How many starter clips per US33 Columbus series edge board?
Each box of 25 starter clips applies to 2 boards or about 12-13 per board.
How many deck screws does each board take?
Each board takes two screws, each two inches from the edge. Therefore, the number of screws needed is the number of boards times two.
How many square feet of decking or siding does one box of clips install?
Each box of clips is designed for use with 50 square feet of decking. This is true for both siding and deck boards, and for decking, for both the mini-gap and T-clip systems.

Deck boards

Do the mini-gap and T-clips come with their respective screws?
Yes, they do.
Do TC-5 clips come with screws?
Yes, they do.
How do I attach US05 decking fascia boards?
You would want to use the third-party tool, the Deckfast Fascia System, featured here: http://www.starbornindustries.com/deckfast-fascia-product. You can color match the boards using their screws by reviewing the right color with their Deck Matcher tool here: http://www.starbornindustries.com/deck-matcher/tool.
Do you make plugs for the holes to seal the ends of the NewTechWood UH02 Voyager series deck boards?
Yes, we do! We refer to these plugs as end caps. You can find more information about the end caps here:https://www.newtechwood.com/us/decking-finishers/#caps.
Is there a recommended caulk for attaching end caps to boards? Would silicone work with this material to seal the ends?
Yes, silicone sealant would be recommended for attaching the plugs.
Will the end caps fit 8-foot UH02 Voyager series deck boards?
Yes, the boards have the same ends so the end caps could be utilized, regardless of length, even if the board is further cut, as long as the ends themselves are not compromised.
Will the end caps work with another decking brand?
IIt would be difficult to say for sure, as we do not know the dimensions of the other brand decking boards. These end caps are designed to work with NewTechWood hollow decking with the dimensions in this diagram: https://www.newtechwood.com/img/decking/profile/decking-uh02.jpg. You may check if the dimensions of the other brand would be the same. You may also purchase a bag, or request a sample, of an end cap to test before purchasing the total quantity needed to complete your deck.

Siding

For AW08 siding clips, do you provide screws? If not, what kind do you recommend?
We do not provide screws for the AW08 siding clips or the AW02 starter strip, since there is variation into the types of substrates they are installed into. We recommend stainless steel or galvanized #8 screws, with a penetration of 1.25’’-1.5’’ (enough to penetrate the substrate), and with a pan head screw head.
What kind of screws can I use with the AW08 siding clips and T-7 rubber stoppers? Do screws come with these accessories?
Our AW08 clips and T-7 rubber stoppers do not come with screws. You would want to use #8 1-inch pan head screws with these accessories.

Railing

When will NewTechWood railing come back in stock?
Our railing and post kits are now back in stock
What is the spacing between balusters?
The space between the balusters is 3.7 inches between balusters, except for the very last ones next to the post, which are 4 inches.
Does the railing kit include parts to install railing for stairs?
The connections for the railing are on a hinge so the railing hardware kit does come with the parts to do either straight or stairs.
Can the railing be cut to a shorter length?
Yes, that would be fine.
Can you create non-90-degree angles between the NewTechWood railing and post kits?
Our railing kits do not come with any way to create non-90-degree angles. You may consider third party modifications that allow for this. One customer was able to create this solution by using a 4×4 post, cutting it at 45 degrees, and attaching it to the post kit.
My railing kit did not come with a post screw template. Where can I get one?
You can download and print it from here: https://www.newtechwood.com/pdf/post_template_usa.pdf.
Would a 4×4 post fit inside a NewTechWood post kit sleeve?
Yes, it would.
Could I run an electric line through the railing post from the railing kits, to install lighting?
Yes, this would be fine.

Garden products

Can this planter be placed on the ground within a landscaped bed?
Yes, the planter boxes can be placed within the ground directly.
Would this work for herbs and a tomato plant?
Yes, it is perfect for those plants.
Can I stack planter boxes?
No, as these planter box walls are made of WPC, they are not load bearing, and cannot be stacked.

Fencing

Where can I find more information about NewTechWood fencing?
